On Vox: No spoilers here, promise.
May. 4th, 2008 11:20 amLast week the missus came home with a sensational message - Desperate Housewives had aired three additional episodes of the 4th season (this is after the big screenwriters' strike in the US had ended, and we had our favorite poison back on screen). What now? Get them on BitTorent of course. Sure thing, the three episodes are there, but without the Hebrew subtitles that we got so used to. No worries, we'll watch them in plain English. So last night the missus and I put the kids to bed, and sat down to find out what those crazy women had been up to. At first you feel weird, as if something is wrong with the broadcast. You wait for the subtitles to come up (no matter what kind of subtitles, even English ones!), but then you start realizing they aren't coming. I mean, you really have to listen to what's being said. Read lips? Turn up the volume? The kids just went to bed. We turned it up a little bit, and pretended we are in the US. I mean, if you want to enjoy the movie, you've got to think in English. And what do you know, after about half an hour it kicks in. One just got to make the mental switch and let go. You even start picking up the little inner jokes. Are we ready to switch over to title-less TV?
