Two young Talmud Tora students caught a butterfly. One said to the other: "Let's trick the rabbi. I'll tell him I have a butterfly in my hands and you ask him - is it alive or dead? If the rabbi says it's dead, I'll open my hands and let it flutter away; if it's pronounced alive, I'll crush it. "
