Saturday morning was the beginning of my “second” vacation in the US. I checked out of the hotel, put my stuff in storage, took my colleague to the airport and was off to the mountains. The weather was fine, the towering peaks in the west beckoned me with their white caps, and I was so eager to get to the ski resort... but so were the rest of the people in Denver. A multitude of vehicles, large and small, carrying skis, snowboards and even snowmobiles, were lined up along the narrow I-70 highway. Instead of the usual 1.5 hours, it took me 3 hours to get to Breckenridge. (A funny kite surfing commercial on the radio “we take you from zero to hero in one day”).

As I already said to [livejournal.com profile] missmokie, Americans would sometimes respond to "thank you" with an energetic "you bet"! Like, I say "thanks for all your help", and the other person just goes "you bet"! I wonder what they mean by it. It's not "you bet you've got to thank me", is it?
