Yesterday on Yes Doco there was a piece about a couple who moved away from Liverpool (the crime rate was more than they could bear) and settled in Scotland, on the island of Hoy. They bought a big secluded house for £80K via the Internet (that means they never saw it in real life), packed their three small kids and all their belongings, and took the ferry to Hoy. They ferry takes one and a half hours, and you get a picture of this beautiful green island, population 100, with tall cliffs, sandy beaches, wide pastures, and a yellow sun setting in the ocean. Very romantic. Now my question is - how long are they gonna keep it up before they go crazy? How are they gonna make a living? What will happen when summer ends and Scottish winter kicks in? I bet they won't show it on TV.
