On Vox: A dime a dozen.
Apr. 2nd, 2009 08:14 amSomebody at the Postcrossing forum gave me an idea for saving money on stamps. "Instead of sending cards via airmail", he said, "go via surface mail. They don't have the technical ability to send cards that way, so you pay less and receive the same service". At first I didn't believe it was true. Surface mail postcards cost 3.1 nis (around 70¢), no matter where you send them. As for airmail, it varies by destination. The cheapest is Europe for 3.8 nis, and the most expensive - the USA, for 5.6 nis (around $1.3). Being a scientist at heart, I decided to conduct an experiment. I mailed two cards to a friend in Estonia, one via airmail, and one via surface mail. Yesterday I got a chat from my Estonian friend. Both cards arrived simultaneously, in 7 days.
