You can imagine how long I've been in the computer business when you see the equipment I'm familiar with. I don't know many people in Israel who have used the PDP11 computers (such as the fine 11/44 in the picture) so extensively. I clicked on the tough VT100 terminals and the horrible LA36 printers. I threaded magnetic tape through the 60's-science-fiction-style TU81 tape drives and exchanged the delicate RL02 disk packs (10MB each!). I formatted a huge 456MB RA81 disk by mistake :) I even got some fine recommendations from Digital, but that's an old story. Let's just say I had a solid understanding of DEC equipment and the RSX11M operating system. What is it all worth these days? Zilch. When I got discharged (in 1997) the Air Force sold the last machine to the scrap dealers. The computer that was so many years ahead of its time, finally became obsolete.
