Ana maskeen.
Mar. 23rd, 2005 06:27 amI don't know why, but all my latest entries are about Arabs. I met this old man in Jerusalem during my dad's visit. I wanted to take his picture, but he looked so miserable, that I had an urge to pay him for it. I gestured to him, as if to ask for permission, but he remained motionless. I took this pic and slipped some small change into his hand. The man looked at the money and said "kamaan" (more). Sure, no problem, I gave him some more change. "Ana maskeen" (I am poor/miserable), he says. I had nothing else in my vocabulary than "salamtak" (may you be healthy)...
