The story features, along with Akunin's own detective Erast Fandorin, two famous characters from Conan Doyle's books: Sherlock Holms and Dr. Watson. A very curious combination, no doubt. But I was wondering, is it legal (©-wise) to use another author's characters in your book? Is it a common practice?
