On Vox: טיפש מאד
May. 12th, 2009 11:14 pmIt's been a while since I posted anything tagged "my tales", but Sunday's Depeche Mode concert brought back some memories, so here's another one for the piggy bank.
When I was a young soldier, around 14 years ago (but who's counting?) I had to drive to the IAF base in Ramat David on army business. I did some maintenance on their computer, upgraded their software, cleaned up the logs, chatted with the operators, and headed back to Zriffin in the afternoon. Since I had a car from the army, I had to pack it full of soldiers, who hitchhiked by the gate. Sure enough, all of them fell asleep almost immediately. I turned the radio a little bit louder, and tried to concentrate on the road. Suddenly a Depeche Mode song came on. Me, an avid fan in those days, started to sing along. I thought I was the only one awake in the car, but I was wrong. Somebody else was also singing in the back seat. A cute dark-skinned soldier girl in my rear view mirror. I hadn't even noticed her before. After everyone got off the car, it was just the two of us. I asked her if she was a fan too, and she said she knew all their songs by heart. We tried to recall a few other catchy tunes, and had a few laughs. The next day I had enough info to find her phone number in Ramat David. I called her up, and asked if she wanted to go out and talk a bit more about our favorite band. She said she'd like that. We met once, or twice. Unfortunately, the only thing we had in common was Depeche Mode...
