On Vox: A story from Jaffa.
May. 4th, 2010 07:58 amOne day St. Peter went up on his roof in Jaffa, and became very hungry and tired (probably after performing some miracles). He didn't have anything to eat, so he waited patiently for his food to be prepared. In the meantime, an angel appeared from the sky, carrying a hefty tray full of deliciously smelling barbecued meat. The angel told him to help himself (takeway from heaven)! The meal contained "all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air". St. Peter was a bit upset with the whole idea of eating it, as he was still bound by the Jewish kosher code, and this stuff wasn't exactly playing by-the-book. He immediately said so to the angel, but the angel told him not to worry about it, as God's blessing made it perfectly okay to consume. St. Peter still couldn't believe his ears, so the voice repeated it three times, hoping the message would eventually get through. While St. Peter just stared at the food in bewilderment, the nice meal had to be returned to sender, untouched. That's the point in time when Christians stopped eating kosher.
