BadatzToday was my first attempt to join the boycott on the Edah HaCharedis by refraining from buying products with their kashrut supervision (see logo on the right). Why is it so important? Because they are an anti-Zionist, anti-Israeli group, that lives under the protection of this country, gets money from the big food corporations, and in return - evades taxes, never thinks about serving in the army, confronts the police on every occasion, etc.etc.

So what did I do? I went to my regular supermarket with a shopping list, and checked every product for its kashrut seal. I had no problem with the milk products, the ice cream, or with the imported stuff. I had to substitute the canola oil (Etz ha-Zait), the pasta (Ossem) and the choco-drink (Elite) for the supermarket's own brand name. No problem with the canned goods. The kids' syrup (Vitaminchik) had to be replaced with a Prigat one. The only thing I couldn't find, was brown sugar. Sugat has a monopoly on that, and all their products carry this particular Badatz seal.

All in all, it's not much of a hassle. I don't think I sacrificed much in terms of price or quality, but did a small step in stopping the parasites from having a party at my expense. As the Americans say, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
