Dec. 20th, 2010 09:18 amMy friend Aet said a smart thing regarding the (apparently strange) practice of "favoriting" your own sent cards on Postcrossing.
This is a card that I would like to receive, properly stamped, addressed and written.
I have never thought of it before. It's not enough to simply own the card, you sometimes want to receive it from someone else.
To those who don't know about Postcrossing, it's sort of an online social network that enables people to exchange old-fashioned postcards. A postcard that has been scanned and displayed on the website can receive votes "in favor" of it. This is not a competition, just a way to quietly voice your opinion on a card. A different user can see, which cards you have "favorited" before, and can choose to send one of them back to you (if he has them available). In other words, it is a common way to indicate your taste in cards. For example, this card of mine has received 51 votes in its favor, which makes it my most popular postcard ever.
