On Vox: Postcrossing.
Jan. 11th, 2009 06:31 pmFollowing the good advice of uuesti-ajutine, I recently joined the fabulous Postcrossing website. The idea is to exchange old fashioned paper postcards with people from all over the world. The more postcards you send, the more you will receive. This involves a tracking mechanism that is run by the website. Every card is tagged with a unique ID, and must be registered upon reception by the addressee. You may, or may not keep in touch with the people you exchange postcards with. The site's job is to supply you with random addresses from its database in a fair fashion. If you're into that kind of stuff, feel free to sign up. All it will cost you is the cards and the postage.
Some of my preliminary observations:
- People are excited to get cards from Israel.
- Finland, Germany, and Holland have a disproportionally large number of users.
- Distance has nothing to do with the time it takes for cards to arrive.
- People don't like cards that are home made, or have advertisements on them.
- Most of the users are women :)
